The Resurrection

Resurrection is a vital subject and a very important doctrine in Christian Faith. Humans are tri-part beings and so was Jesus of Nazareth that is why His bodily resurrection was very important to us as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. When Jesus was on earth, He predicted about His bodily resurrection many times. (Matthew 17:22-25; Mark 9:30-32, Luke 9:43-45) not only that He proved to all what He said was true when He rose again (Matthew 27:53)

What did our Lord first say to the women at the grave yard? He said “do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him”. We know the background of the story, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went looking for their Master’s dead body to anoint the dead body, instead they found a risen Saviour very much alive waiting to go to the Father completing His task on earth setting people free from sin, curse, hell and death.

Throughout the Bible the Doctrine of resurrection is spoken. Read the following scriptures in the Old Testament. Genesis 22:1-14; Psalm 16:10; Job 19:25-27; Isaiah 26:19; Dan 12:2; Ho 13:14. Also read the following in the New Testament Luke 14:13-14; 20:35-36; John 6:39-40, 44, 54; 1 Corinthians 15:22-23; Philippians 3:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:14-16; Heb 11:17-19; Revelation 20:4-6, 13.

Jesus is only the living God and the only Person who rose from the dead. So as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ we live in a blessed hope of rising again in bodily form to meet our Lord and Saviour and our loved ones who have gone before us (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14).

Christianity is the only faith who talks about a bodily resurrection, while other faiths talks of re-incarnation. Otherwise all of us will be without hope and following a dead God, that doesn’t make any sense to our faith, and as the great Apostle Paul said we will be the most miserable people.

Jesus Christ is the very person who guaranteed us the our bodily resurrection (Matthew 28:6; Acts 17:31;1 Corinthians 15:12,20-23). The resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ proves that He is the Son of God (John 10:17-18), it proves that the word of God is true (Psalm 16:10; Luke 24:44-47; Acts 2:31). Only because Jesus resurrected we have received the Holy Spirit and He is alive in us today (John 14:15-16; 20:22; Romans 5:10; 1 Corinthians 15:45). It gives us our future inheritance in heaven (1 Peter 1:3-4). It assures us of our translation when the Lord Jesus comes (John 14:3; 1Thessalonians 4:14).

The resurrection has given us power to overcome sin in our day to day lives (Galatians 2:20; Ephesians 1:18-20). It also gives us the greater assurance of the Judgement for the wicked (Acts17:30-31).

What are the benefits of the Resurrection?

  • We will be turned to the Image of Our Lord Jesus Christ – Romans 8:29; 1Corinthians 15:49 .
  • We will have incorruptible bodies – 1 Corinthians 15:42.

  • We will have immortal bodies – 1Corinthians 15:53.
