This is a word that everyone struggles with. Every year we make good resolutions and don’t seem to keep them. We feel guilty and angry at ourselves by the end of that year because we haven’t kept those desired resolutions. Here is a solution to you not beating yourself up over the resolutions you couldn’t keep.
Paul said in Philippians 3: 12-14 – Not that I have already obtained it [this goal of being Christlike] or have already been made perfect, but I actively press on so that I may take hold of that [perfection] for which Christ Jesus took hold of me and made me His own. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the [heavenly] prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
When Paul wrote this he was in prison chained and in terrible circumstances. Despite his situation he was able to think positively about the future and that to me is being able to keep to a resolution. So to make it simple, in Christ Jesus we can reach and keep our resolutions.
At the end of each year I sit with the Lord and ask Him what He wants me to do. As He reveals His plans I write them down and as I go through the year with Him as my focus I am able to look back on a year that was fruitful and very successful. How? I applied what Paul talks about in the above passage.
He is saying that he hasn’t obtained it yet nor is he perfect but he continues believing that eventually that is what He will experience. The key however is that he doesn’t look back, but pushes forward not relying on his own strength, therefore God makes it possible to keep your resolutions.
Be encouraged! Don’t set resolutions for yourself that are not in the will of God for you. Sit with the Lord and ask Him what plans and resolutions He has for you in 2017.Write them down and as the year goes by you will see you can tick of everything you had planned to keep. It is the best feeling to know that everything God intended for you to experience and do in 2017 was accomplished because of Him
Let me declare over you that this new year will be one that you will keep every resolution you make in Jesus Name.
