Don’t allow the noise of distractions to take you of the path

A friend came to visit me yesterday and he said to me that I was very distracted. Yes I was. The noise of everything around me had distracted me from what was absolutely essential to focus on. What I ended up realising was that the distractions caused me to not pay attention to detail and lose out on what my friend was trying to say to me.

Remember Martha in Luke 10:38-42 she was distracted and worried about many things.  We are so quick to judge her but often we are worse than her.

Merriam Webster – Distraction – “unable to think about or pay attention to something : unable to concentrate”

This can be true with our spiritual walk as well. There is so much happening around us all the time that we get worried and then distracted from the very call and purpose of God for our lives.

Have you noticed how noisy our nation is? There is noise everywhere and it can be annoying if you are looking for peace and quiet. My bedroom is next to the main road and if I allow myself to be distracted by the noise of the vehicles on the road I won’t get any devotions done nor will I hear the Lord. However I have learned to shut myself off from the noise of the road next to me and focus on what matters most.

Martha’s worries and distractions positioned her to miss out on plans and purpose God had for her. So often because of our own distractions we tend to lose out on hearing what God is saying, so we need a prophet or a man of God to come along to rebuke us into realizing how far we have strayed from the best God had for us.

I love that verse in the Bible that says Isaiah 50:7 – Because the Sovereign LORD helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, I have set my face like a stone (flint), determined to do his will. And I know that I will not be put to shame.

How many of us can actually say we set our face like flint? No matter who, no matter what, we will do what it takes to fulfill the call of God upon our lives. Don’t allow yourself to be distracted!
