This year the government predicted famine and food shortage in our land because of bad weather patterns. I see it differently. I was reminded of the famine in the book of 2 Samuel 21. Most often famine was a result of a defilement or sin in the land. During David’s time a great famine is recorded in the land. David was a man who inquired of the Lord and when he did he found that it was because Saul was instrumental in getting the Gibeonites killed 2 Samuel 21:1. These people had entered into a covenant with Israel in the days of Joshua which actually guaranteed their safety and protection. However Saul broke the covenant with these Gibeonites and planned to massacre anyone left after he started his murderous rampage. This was the cause for God to remove His blessing and allow satan to create famine in the land. Sadly the curse was activated when the new king was established and he inherited a famine.
Look at the broken covenants in our own countries between natives and immigrants, marriages, parents and children, teachers and students, governments and people, religious institutions and devotees and the list goes on. We make promises we cannot keep, covenant with each other but somewhere along the line we break our word and the covenant we entered into. This act of breaking of the covenants have consequences just like it did for David with the Gibeonites. David had to inquire from the Lord to set things right again. If you find there is a curse operating in your life or territory or perhaps in your business ask the Lord if it is a broken covenant that has caused this.
I recall a time I worked on a campaign for a company that never paid me after giving me their word that they would. We entered into a covenant with rates being approved etc, however after the work was done I never got paid. I went after them but never did they honour the agreement. I chose to forget about it and move on. Subsequently the same company changed owners, the new owners who were my friends asked if I would design and do some work for them. I said okay this time things were different. However my friend who took over from the last owner could never move forward with the business he always had issues in the business. I was invited to go and pray in his office because of the desperate situation. One day the Lord revealed the issue, it was broken covenants so I told my friend what had happened with me in the past and he mentioned to me that many other suppliers also had complained so we repented on behalf of the broken covenants and asked God’s forgiveness washed the business with the blood of Jesus and after some time my friend saw his business take off and a turn for the better. If you are struggling with something inquire from the Lord and make the changes and you will experience a good ending.
