Luke 5:5 And Simon (Peter) answered, Master, we toiled all night [ exhaustingly] and caught nothing [in our nets]. But on the ground of Your word, I will lower the nets [again]. AMP
Here in this story you see the disciples having fished all night and not catching anything, Jesus comes along and really what does He know about fishing but He adds His two cents worth and ask them to do it again. His Word to them didn’t make any sense at all. Besides how can a carpenter tell them how to fish? After all they were veteran fishermen. However nothing they had done the previous night had helped to catch anything.
Don’t you feel like that sometimes. You have done everything you know how to get your business going or get something going and nothing seemed to work out. You feel desperate and then someone who doesn’t know your field comes along to give you advice on a subject that you know everything about, how would you feel? I would be annoyed to say the least. The thing here was that in spite of how they felt and inspite of everything they had gone through Peter went with the Word of the Lord. What would you do?
In our everyday mundane circumstances when we are metaphorically cleaning our nets we could hear the voice of Jesus say” do it again” this time it can work. But if we are angry, frustrated and annoyed by the previous many try outs that didn’t work we can miss a visit from the Master who can change everything for us. Nothing special ever happens in our workplaces or our homes it’s just routines isn’t it? But in this case Jesus showed up and made the difference. We must watch out for Jesus because you never know you can bump into Him during one of your daily routines. It’s so easy to miss Jesus in the common places of our lives.
Let me close by relating an experience I had. I used to run a prayer meeting in my office many years back and it became a routine exercise every Monday at 8.00am. Nothing extraordinary would happen but I would long and wish for God to show up but for years nothing spectacular took place. One Monday however we had a meeting that changed everything Jesus decided to show up and the meeting went on for hours we could not work and everyone who got healed or received a Word from God went to their colleagues and mentioned it and then they came seeking to meet with Jesus. Wow! what a day it was many lives were touched and transformed. My boss turned to me at the end of it and said your faithfulness has been rewarded. We bumped into Jesus in our usual routine prayer meeting.
Be faithfully doing what you are and watch out for Jesus He might be right there with you. When you obey His Word, nets are broken, needs are met and salvations are inevitable and God is glorified.
