Do you know your calling?

Its is very clear reading the Bible that God has a special task for each of us on this earth. How silly it would be if we thought otherwise. Think about your own life if you had siblings who grew up with you did you all think and act and do the same things? I know for a fact its not, my brother is a incredibly gifted musician I am not I am an artist who transforms nations. We both found our callings and are living it out with great success. Look at the following scriptures…

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God a fore prepared that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2;10

Meet two amazing men Bezlel and Oholiab. See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, to devise skilfull works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in cutting of stones for setting, and in carving of wood, to work in all manner of workmanship. And I, behold, I have appointed with him Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and in the heart of all that are wise-hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee: Exodus 31:2-6

These are examples of people being called by God to do things that have nothing to do with religion. Nehemiah was a mason and a builder of walls, Daniel was in government official in a country not his own, Luke was a physician.

If this is the case where you are, doing what you are doing can be your calling.

When you demonstrate kingdom character and use your resources, your income to fulfill God’s purpose on earth you are as called by God as any pastor or priest in the ministry.

Your past does not disqualify you – I thank him that enabled me, even Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he counted me faithful, appointing me to his service; 13 though I was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: howbeit I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief; 14 and the grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.1 Timothy 1:13

God doesn’t consult our past to determine our future.

In my own experience I have seen God calling me to a job that has always been bigger than me. Why did He do this? So I would never forget where my strength and success came from.

A Calling is not you volunteering to a classified advertisement, you don’t volunteer you respond to a call.

If you ever watched the movie Chariots of fire you will recall that Eric Liddell the Olympic runner saying: “when I run I feel God’s pleasure”. This kind of pleasure only God provides, it comes from knowing you are doing what He told you to do. Eventually Eric Liddell became a minister and a missionary. So your call can start in one place and take you to another but you will find lasting pleasure serving Him.

When God calls you to something His call can come in different ways:

  1. You are moved – God’s hand is on you nudging you forward towards particular need.
  2. Other people confirm your calling – God will discern that God’s at work in your life. “You’re at your best when you do this” is what they will say
  3. You’ll be gifted to do it – With a call comes a giftedness – that special empowerment God gives to the called “when you are in your calling you soar in spite of obstacles. And the place comes alive.
  4. You will see results – You’ll change things, touch lives and see God glorified.

So let’s see how you can have a deeper understanding of how to find your calling

Every big company makes a mission and vision statement and I think that is the first step. Based on what is flowing in and through you the first thing you should do is write down what makes you tick and the passions you have inside of you so you can finally define a mission and vision statement.

Mission Statement defines what you want to do, its objectives and its approach to reach those objectives. A Vision Statement describes your desired future. Elements of Mission and Vision Statements are often combined to provide a statement of your purposes, goals and values.

Habakkuk 2:2 – And Jehovah answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tablets, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hasteth toward the end, and shall not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not delay.

God tells the prophet to write down the vision. Therefore first sit down and write a statement based on your mission and vision.

This statement should help you to see clearly and keep you on track.

  1. It must define God’s purpose for your life – God’s purposes for your life will never change – Many plans are in a man’s mind, but it is the Lord’s purpose for him that will stand (be carried out) Proverbs 19:21
  2. It must make you constantly think about the path you are taking – Consider well and watch carefully the path of your feet, and all your ways will be steadfast and  Proverbs 4:16

What you have written down as a statement must give clarity in what you intend to do with your time, possessions, opportunities, responsibilities, your money etc.
  3. It must make you define what success is – What does success mean to you? Don’t go on what others believe success is but in your heart what is success? Yesterday I was talking to a grandmother and I told her I am so impressed with the way she takes care of her grandchildren. She then told me “I haven’t achieved much in life”. We talked for a while and I shared with her what amazing children she has raised. Good human beings her three daughters are wonderful. She then said “I suppose that was what I was born to do, raise three good human beings. In that I have been very successful.”

For what shall a man be profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and forfeit his life? or what shall a man give in exchange for his life? 27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then shall he render unto every man according to his deeds. Proverbs 16:26-27.
  4. It must make your roles clear – At different stage sin your life you take up roles. However you’re God given purpose will never change. Your job, your work, where you live or who you marry should support your life’s purpose. Many plans are in a man’s mind, but it is the Lord’s purpose for him that will stand (be carried out) Proverbs 19:21.

Constantly keep reminding yourself of the purpose of God for your life. I discovered my God given purpose when I was 29 years old. This changed everything for me. I began to soar thereafter in everything I did. Up to this time I found that I was living a losing lifestyle. Nothing I did seemed to prosper. It did for a short time but I would lose big time I had no purpose. When I discovered my calling was to transform nations things turned around rapidly. Now nations call me because they see the calling of God and His purpose so apparent in my life. I am satisfied and fulfilled all at once and I keep growing in this calling day by day. So it is important to meditate on your calling and the purpose of God for your life just like it says in Proverbs  For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee, If they be established together upon thy lips Proverbs 22:18.

For years I would write down what I felt my calling and purpose was however every now and then I had to keep tweaking it. Today it’s clear and the organization Enforcers of the Call God caused me to establish also runs on the same calling and purpose of God.  We are successful because of it.

God is looking for those who will say “here I am Lord , let me live out your purposes in my generation” the Bible says in  1 Chronicles 16:9 – For the eyes of Jehovah run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Will you surrender your dreams for His plans and purpose I will guarantee 100% success in your lifetime and complete contentment.

I hope you find your calling after reading this. God bless and prosper you as you move in what you were born to do.
