Let’s read Luke 6:45 “A good man out of his good treasure of his heart brings forth good: and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bring forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks”.
Just think for a moment you have two baskets. One basket you fill with good things like chocolate, cake cookies, fruits, and other beautiful things, while you fill the other basket with throwaways like, bits of paper, empty fish cans, stale food, spoiled vegetables and fruits. And when you want to get a cookie to what basket are you going to put your hand? If you put the hand to the one you collected junk you will get junk. But if you put your hand to the basket which you collected the good stuff, then you will get the cookie you needed. That is the same with our heart or mind. What we put into our mind is what will come out of our mouths.
HOW DO WE KEEP OUR HEART WITH GOOD TREASURES.
There are two gates that we get information to our brain, mind and heart. And these are the same gates Satan used Adam and Eve to deceive them.
- The Eye Gate:- Eve fell to temptation, because she saw the fruit. (Gen 3:6). Today what we see, through films, television, face-book, skype, books, papers, magazines or even walking on the streets gets into our minds. We must be careful at what we look at. The Bible says our Eyes are the lamp of our body (Matt 6:22; Pro 15:30a). Our associations are important, because our relationships make us who we are. We must be careful about the things we see, and language we read, through the social media. Today most of the social media is filled with corrupt language. The books we read have filthy language that goes in to our minds very fast and can corrupt us.
I read a book about a lady who has gone through so much mental trauma, when she recovered she wrote her life story. There were some words that the decent society would not use, this book was so interesting I kept on reading, unknowingly some words had got in to my mind and I started using them not verbally pronouncing them, but in my mind it was coming again and again, I was wondered where I got these words? Then it struck me, it was from that book. Today I am very careful about what I read. My eye gate filled my heart and mind with the wrong words. (Pro 3:7; 4:21-25; - The Ear Gate:- What we hear through conversations. Eve heard what the serpent said (Gen 3:1). What do we listen through the television? What do we listening to on our CD players, MP3, Mobile phones? The young generation today is with their phones and earphones fixed to their ears 24 hours of the day. Even old folks, if you listen to the wrong stuff, your heart will be filled with wrong. Therefore be careful of the songs and music you listen to. In addition we must be careful with whom we associate with, because our relationships make us who we are. If you associate with gossip mongers, people who keep on slandering others 24×7 that’s what you will end up becoming (Pro 12:26; 13:20). If parents use foul language the children too tend to do so. However when we associate with people who always speak positive, encouraging pure words, we too will end up being people who are pure and encouraging.
- The Mouth Gate:- This is the outlet. What we see from the eye gate and what we hear from the ear gate is stored in our storage, the heart or the mind, then it is released through the mouth gate (Pro 4:24). If we are seeing and hearing what is edifying, comforting, and positive and engaging in clean conversations, it is those things that will come out of our mouths. If we are seeing and listing to discouraging, discomforting, tearing and negative things, those are the things that will come out of our mouths.
The bottom line is this. We must be very careful of what we are seeing with our eyes and hearing with our ears and the thoughts that is in our hearts. Because when the eye, ear and mouth are corrupted, everything in our lives ends up destructive. We bring destruction to around us.
Read the following Scriptures and check your own lives if these things are not happening, definitely there is garbage in your life, repent and turn. (Pro 1:3;2:2-5; 7:1-3; 10:11,20-21,31-32; 11:13,12:13,17-19,21; 15:1-2,4,28; 16:13).
