The last few weeks I have heard numerous real life stories on how people have gotten into debt. This got me thinking and thinking how can I help these people after all Jesus has the answer to even our debt problems.
Some of these people have come to the end of their tether they have borrowed to stay a float which causes more problems. These are not people who are jobless but who are esteemed honest hardworking people yet they seem to be deep in debt. Even their wages don’t seem to help them get out of it. One of them told me it’s the first of the month and “I have no money” I had no words to say listening to the desperation in the tone of voice. There is nothing even to scrape until the next paycheck.
Living with this immense pressure means not even having the ability to make ends meet nor tithe which would usually open the window to God’s blessings. I know what it is like being in this situation. Many years ago I too was in a similar position.I was under the control of the spirit of debt.
None of us are called to live this way and this is not God’s way for us to live.God always has an answer and a plan out of this dark hole that we call debt.
I can honestly say that God is concerned about my finance as much He is about the rest of my life. Let us look at a miracle of debt cancellation found in the Bible 2 Kings 4:1-7.
This widow woman and her two sons were deeply in debt and the sentence to that was her sons being sold as slaves to the creditors. They had nothing except a small pot of oil left, for the debt crisis stole everything. She was older and had no more energy to probably work and earn and was only looking towards a future of being beggarly.
However she was a wise woman she never sought out help from her creditor. In the midst of her crisis she turned to the man of God. The creditor could only give her more debt, however the Lord gave her an opportunity to receive a miracle. Cancelled debt! What she had to do was simple and she had to stick to the plan the man of God had revealed. She needed one ingredient and that was faith to be able to do this. Lets look at what happens.
The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.” 2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.” 3 Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. 4 Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.” 5 She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. 6 When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.” But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing. 7 She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”
After reading this ts very clear to me the miracle of destroying the spirit of debt in this story. The impossible situation demanded payment and ruination of this widow woman and her sons. However in a few hours the woman was completely debt free. This story shows us the possibility that God always has a solution for debt problems. What we need to do is ask ourselves what do we have in our hands? Find whatever it is mix it with faith and sell it and you can get out of debt.
When I was in debt I had no money to eat nor pay my bills. A friend told me that when she prayed she saw God use my hands. It a long story but in a nut shell I started art classes and and today I have a thriving business. God has a way out of debt for everyone of us. It not necessarily the same way for everyone, however ask Him, exercise your faith and you will experience a miracle.
